These Are 2017's Best (And Worst) Places to Get Married in the U.S. for Couples On a Budget

Published on by ABCdress

Today, couples are spending an average of about $30,000 on their wedding day celebration. For many engaged couples — who are still struggling with student loan debt or simply trying to become more financially secure — this cost can seem daunting. Because of the rising costs of weddings throughout the U.S., WalletHub decided to take an in-depth look at 2017's most wallet-friendly destinations. Their analysts compared 150 of the biggest U.S. cities across 20 key indicators of cost-effectiveness, convenience, and enjoyment to help couples find a wedding locale that is perfect for their specific needs. The results might just surprise you.

For couples seeking a low-cost destination, El Paso, Texas is certainly the best bet. It topped WalletHub's lowest average wedding cost, with Brownsville, TX, Knoxville, TN, Springfield, MO, and Memphis, TN, trailing close behind. And no, you don't need to wear cowboy boots to the reception if you don't want to (although we're sure it's highly encouraged). As for the most pricey locales? This comes as no surprise — New York City, Newark, NJ, Jersey City, NJ, and Yonkers, NY, all top the list as the highest average wedding costs.

If you and your fiancé are hoping to get married in a church, these locations boast the most wedding chapels and churches per capita: Birmingham, AL, Richmond, VA, Salt Lake City, UT, Springfield, MO, and Pittsburgh, PA. The city with the very least places of worship is Pembroke Pines, FL.

Every bride needs a little (or a lot!) of help with planning her wedding, so it's oftentimes imperative that a wedding planner step in to save the day. Where you'll find the most event planners per capita is Denver, CO, Washington, D.C., Aurora, CO, Orlando, FL, and Des Moines, IA. The city with the least amount? Stockton, CA.

Good weather can be hard to come by in certain cities, but these locations proudly took the top spots as best weather destinations in the country: Glendale, CA, Riverside, CA, Bakersfield, CA, Scottsdale, AZ, and Henderson, NV. The spots you may want to avoid if you're throwing an outdoor celebration? Boston, MA, Indianapolis, IN, Providence, RI, Rochester, NY, and Buffalo, NY.
